Interview with Author Melissa Bender

This is the time for another author interview and today Author Melissa Bender is with us. She has a new release and we like to know more...

1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Ans. => In school I wasn't sure what I wanted, and becoming an author seemed impossible so I just didn't push for it. I kept writing but it was a secret hobby. But when I discovered wattpad and people began to comment and say they enjoyed it and wanted more. That's when I had the thought of holy crap, I can do this, this is what I want to do. I want to be a best selling author and give people the same feeling I get when I write this.

2. How long does it take you to write this book?
Ans. => Around 8 months. I wasn't able to sit and write as often as I wished. Kids were sick and finding 'me' time was limited. Others can take around 2 - 3 months max if I write daily.

3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
Ans. => I am very good at blocking everything out, so when I come up with a new story it is usually based on a simple sentence or thought I've had during the day and I come up with a whole story based on that. I set my plot, write out the characters and the write each chapter and what I want to happen. Then I start on writing the prologue.

4. What brought you to write this book?
Ans. => I was reading a online confession page for a women's magazine and came across a confession where a woman mentioned her regret for losing the man she loved by lying and saying she cheated on him. From there my story began.

5. How you become a published author? Any inspiration?
Ans. => I posted on Wattpad for years before I was approached and I actually never thought it would happen, I was happy with writing for my fans but then when the opportunity came along to publish a book, I definitely said yes. I just kept doing what I loved, and that was writing and thanking my fans which helped as they like to know I have taken the time to read each individual message and replied.

6. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Ans. => They are all in my head. Sometimes things that happen during my day that makes me think, oh I definitely have to put this in a story. It's just little things that happen and they inspiration grows from there.

7. When did you write your first book and how old were you?

Ans. => I was 16. It was based on a girl who moved to a new town and met a boy in school. Her parents were killed in a plane crash and she moved in with his family and fell pregnant. It was very dramatic. I will re write this one day.

8. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Ans. => Cook. I'm always in the kitchen. Or quietly reading novels. I also love a good Netflix binge session too. I'm eagerly waiting for the new Prison Break.

9. How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?
Ans. => I have written around 17. Oohh, that's tough as I am attached to each story differently. Forgotten Sweethearts is probably my favourite as it's something a lot of people can relate to and my first published story.

10. What's next for you? What are you working on now?
Ans. => Lots!! There is a book series in the works and I am also going back through my older stories and re writing each one. There is heaps more coming from me.

Interview with Author C. Craig Coleman

**Author Peek** INTRODUCING….Author C. Craig Coleman

Interviewer:  Why do you write epic fantasy for the YA and adult market?

Craig:  Fantasy is the product of imagination. The imagination is our mental growth engine. As children, we all have vivid imaginations, but society urges us to stifle it as if childish. We should be encouraging, feeding, exploring our imaginations. Would we have personal computers if someone hadn't seen the old industrial computers and 'envisioned' having one at home? Imagine the Internet!

We can see ourselves in epic fantasy. The young hero questions, as we all do, will we be good enough to meet our parents' and society's expectations. Epic 'challenges' represent the worst fears we all have that can prove our worth or destroy us. Don't we all have that insurmountable fear? In fantasy, fear of an overwhelming power is manifested in a personification, the dragon, a griffin, etc.. It puts a face on that terror or that positive power. Thus the universal fascination with dragons.

I write epic fantasy because it is the imagination coming alive depicting the vitality of of the essential elements of real life.

Interviewer:  Some people put down fantasy as not real. How do you respond to that?

Craig:  Really good fantasy maintains credibility such that the reader can believe it is possible. An example, in my second book, The Crystal Legacy, there is a character, the Astorax, who is half man half deer. He is the manifestation of all those who are different in some way. The story for that character presents real life discrimination against him, his response and that of those around him. It's real life. One the surface, you say well half man half deer can't happen. Not so, today, researchers using 'magic' meds to prevent rejection of foreign cells and generic engineering are growing human ears on the back of mice! Someone 'imagined' that possibility.

Interviewer:  What do you love most about your epic story?

Craig:  I suppose I love the scope and depth of the story and its characters. One can read it for the fantasy entertainment, but for those who want more, there is a depiction of life, real life through a man whose character grows in response to life's challenges. All through the series, the humanity of the characters are rich with personalities and building relationships. Who doesn't love warm human relationships, with frailty and vulnerability, they can relate to? We all seek hope through life's challenges.

Book one, The Dragon Ring, spans the coming of age phase, ages twelve through nineteen, in the life of the protagonist, Saxthor. This foundation establishes the character and integrity as well as the relationships of the primary characters. The reader grows up with Saxthor inside his head. Thus, through the series and his life the reader knows not only what is happening, but also what and why the key characters are thinking that makes them act as they do through the challenges life presents.

Interviewer:  How did you write this series?

Craig:  A family friend and teacher in my youth once said, "You should write some of this down." Many decades later, when I needed to 'think outside the box,' I decided to write a book inspired by that seed thought. I drew a map, I love maps, and named the kingdoms using names created from my home grown language. The manes are magical to me. From there, I sat down with just a framework in mind. After the first fifty pages, the story took off and I just typed, going along for the ride!

Interviewer:  Where do the exciting covers come from for your series?

Craig:  I designed each cover from an episode in the book. I've been really lucky to discover two very talented book cover artists to bring my visions to life.

Interview with Author Izzy Church

Hello everyone, it’s time to take an author interview and today Author Izzy Church is with us. We are interviewing her for her book "Dr. Pookie and the Case of His Missing Thought", which launched on February 20, 2017 by Square Monkey Publishing.

SO,
1.    When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Ans. => I’ve been storytelling since my early childhood. I would write little plays and perform them with my friends. So, actually, the art of storytelling fueled two of my passions: acting & writing. As a teenager, I was offered an opportunity to pursue acting with a well-known agency in NewYork. For several years I concentrated on performace, but soon I realized something was missing in my life and that was the art of storytelling. Therefore, I pursued a higher education in communication arts with a specialiazation in writing for film and television. The two art forms motivate me and keep me passionate about my craft.

2.    How long does it take you to write this book?

Ans. =>The process of both writing and illustrating, Dr. Pookie and The Case of his Missing Thought  took around a year. I tend to write the first draft of a story months before or sometimes even years before I sit down to complete the book, which I call the gestation period. I believe in that tried and true statement: If you love something, let it go. If it returns, it’s yours. It might sound corny, but it works for me. If I find a story is calling me back, then I know it’s ready and it’s worth dedicating the next six to eights months of my life.

3.    What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
Ans. =>I set up a consistent writing schedule. The whole idea is not to break the chain. Therefore, I write everyday…sometimes it’s for an hour and other days I write all day long. I find that the key to completing a book is being persistent. There will be days that you want to throw in the towe, but more than likely, you probably just need a break. So, don’t force the writing. If you find yourself staring at a blank page, write anything and then walk away. I believe writing can be compared to an athlete running a marathon. The athlete trains everyday with the intention of seeing themselves cross the finish line. It is much the same with writing a book, the only difference being that your goal is to see yourself holding a completed copy of your book.

4.    What brought you to write this book?
Ans. => I wrote a rhyme about losing my thought a few years ago; it was no more than four or five lines, but I thought it was so cute that I turned it into a book.

5.    How you become a published author? Any inspiration?
Ans. => Several years ago, I held a reading of a screenplay that I wrote and deceuded ti invite“Industry” to attend. The screenplay was well received by audience members and Industry folks alike thus,  it resulted in me creating a connection with a publisher.

6.    Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
There are so many ways to generate ideas for a good story. I like to do warm up exercises like: writing stream of consicousness, improv to paper, and or skimming through magazines for articles that I can turn into a story. These exercises help, so that you are ready when inspiration strikes. Ultimately, you need to feel connected to the story your writing, but the exercises can help you to generate ideas that wil trigger you to write a compelling and entertaining story.
7.    Ans. =>When did you write your first book and how old were you?
Ans. => My first book was a lol film-industry romantic comedy novel titled, Angry Movie Guy. It launched in February of 2016 and now I’m in pre-production for the script-to-screen version of the film.

8.    What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Ans. =>I love acting and Improv. I work with a fun group of actor/improvisors and we perform at NYC venues. I also love art. I paint and draw all the time and exhibit my work with other talented artists in NYC. I’m actually co-curating two great shows right now: No More Black Targets and Street to Tower with the World trade center.

9.    How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?
Ans. => This is only my second book, so I’m not ready to choose a favorite.

10.    What's next for you? What are you working on now?

Ans. => I’m working on another novel titled, My Beautiful Neighbor and a children’s book is brewing titled, Queen Bee.  I’m also working on a television pilot with a co-writer, which we hope to produce in 2017.

Interview with Author Coach Derz

Hello everyone, check out this interview I did with Coach Derz and his new book "the manifestation of affirmation".

At what point did you realize you wanted to write this book?

-       I’ve wanted to write a book for a couple of years now. It wasn’t until this year though, that I committed to an abundance mentality. Prior to that it would simply come in waves, from one goal to the next. I committed to the process this spring and finally put pen to paper and decided that if this process has done so much for me, I can only imagine what it will do for others!

How much time did you put into writing Manifestation Of Affirmation?

-       I’ve put my whole adult life into this book. I have applied each of the principles and anecdotes in this book somehow some way, each and every day. It wasn’t until this year that I committed myself to getting it all down on paper, and began the process of getting it out to the masses. Whether you apply one principle, or all of them, it will do nothing but enhance the way you live your life for the better.

How did you manage your time while writing the book and managing Crossfit PHX?

-       When I wasn’t coaching or training, I was cultivating thoughts and journaling the process for the Manifestation of Affirmation. There were many nights in which I would work into the wee hours of the morning, making sure that the message was clear and concise so that application and adherence was that much easier for those being exposed to this information for the first time.

What was your inspiration for writing the book?

-       As I look back on all that I have been through, and all that I have accomplished as a result, the Laws of the Universe, the Law of Attraction, the “Secret” have always been present. Through many years of deep self-work and soul searching, I have become present to the manifestation of my deepest desires. It is a process that we are all in control of. Each of us has the power to choose, and make decisions that either hold us back, or launch us forward. The application of the principles within this book, as I have applied them, has lead me to where I am now, and allowed me to be present in each and every moment, that is the effect that I want it have on those who read and apply them too.

Are there any authors in particular that gave you the inspiration to write your own book?

-       Oh my goodness, so many. Malcolm Gladwell, Daniel Pink, Grant Cardone, Depak Chopra, John C. Maxwell, Napoleon Hill, Paulo Coelho, Tim Ferriss, and Michael Gerber, just to name a few. The list is quite extensive. I read constantly, as it facilitates perspective and new thoughts with and every book.

When you realized your love for fitness, was becoming a published author one of your goals?

-       No. Writing a book has been a very recent goal for me. I’ve written and been published before. However, I have recently held the company of some of the most enlightened people I have ever met. In this circle I noticed that we subscribe to much of the same thoughts, lifestyles, and share very similar perspectives on this life. Through this revelation, I decided that there was something there that needed to be shared on a massive level. We all come from very different places, and yet, we think so much alike. ANYONE can apply these principles.

Aside from sharing your perspective with others, what are some things that you are passionate about?

-       Obviously fitness. Leadership is something that I am extremely passionate about: both as a follower seeking new knowledge, and as mentor guiding my apprentices and new coaches though the trials of life, fitness and business.

-       My colleague Jeff and I recently started a podcast, “Feed Me, Fuel Me” in which host a number guests and discuss any and all of these four pillars of a life positively manifested: Fitness, Nutrition, Business/Entrepreneurship, and Manifestation.

What’s next for you? Do you see yourself writing any more books in the future?

-       Because of this abundance mentality, in some circles called the obligation to “Say Yes”, I have been blessed with some amazing opportunities for business and experience. I have recently signed on with an amazing performance technology that will revolutionize the world of functional fitness as we know it. It will allow coaches and trainers the opportunity to accurately scale clients, members, and athletes’ intensity, without giving up the movement protocol prescribed, as a means to preserve optimal performance over the long term.  It’s still “hush hush” right now, but I can assure big things are coming!!

Interview with Author Clare de Lune

Hello everyone, this is an interview time and today Clare de Lune is with us...

1.   When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Ans. => I came to the realization early on, around age 7 or 8. I had my first short story published at age 11, and that sealed the deal for me. I started reading early, around age 2 or 3, and my mom was really obsessed with these John D. MacDonald books. She’d read them aloud to me, along with parts of Stephen King books because I’d annoy her with questions about what she was reading. It wasn’t long before Istarted sneaking into her room and reading them for myself.

2.   How long did it take you to write this book?
Ans. =>Since Five Little Deaths is a collection of short stories, it’s hard to say. I wrote the first one back in 2006 and never got around to sending it out to any zines, so that’s what inspired the collection. I had these short stories sitting around, so I combined them into a collection and self-published it.
3.   What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
Ans. => I have a full time job as a librarian during the day. In the mornings, though, I scribble in a journal—just some general thoughts, or if I’m lucky, a few lines of fiction. I come home from work, go to the gym and cook dinner, then write in the evenings. I aim for at least 1,000 words a day, but I’m looking for ways to bump up my word count. I usually write every single day.

4.   What brought you to write this book?
Ans. => I decided I wanted to put myself out there as an erotic horror writer, so I gathered up a collection of some of my favorite stories that I just kept to myself for a long time. I mostly just wrote erotica as a ghostwriter and under several other pen names, but I’ve always been a rabid horror fan.Horror, especially when it’s combined with an element of eroticism, is especially fascinating to me because fear and lust are often things we avoid talking about.

How did you become a published author? Any inspiration?

Ans. => I’d say I’ve been writing seriously since I was a teen, but I was always shy about sending it out into the world—I’m a pretty shy person in general, but what inspired me was meeting an already established horror writer who pushed me to start sending out my stuff. I had my first horror short story, “Annabelle and I”, published in The Horror Library way back in 2006. I quit my job in 2009 to become a full-time writer, which included lots of erotica.
5.   Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Ans. =>By observing people and imagining what they’d do. I find myself constantly analyzing everyone’s idiosyncrosies and making conclusions about what kind of person they’d be. I also tend to be a sounding board for a lot of people, it seems—I get approached by strangers fairly often, and they always seem to want to tell me their life stories.

6.   When did you write your first book and how old were you?
Ans. =>I’d say Five Little Deaths counts as my first book under my real identity, but I wrote a few erotica collections under a pen name when I was in my late twenties. I just finished a novel titled What Lies Within, and readers can get an idea of what it’s all about if they pick up a copy of Five Little Deaths—there’s a short story in there that gives an introduction to two serial killers, Sophia and Paul. What Lies Within will soon be published by Caliburn Press.
7.   What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Ans. =>I read voraciously. I also paint a little and love to play pool, go to the gym, and be out in nature.
8.   How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?
Ans. =>Besides Five Little Deaths, I’ve written a novella, Second Skin, and a full-length book, What Lies Within. I really liked Second Skin, a story about a model who goes down the wrong path, because it was hard to write. I wanted to make the main character a bit transparent and two-dimensional on purpose, which was a challenge. I think I pulled it off and it works well within the story.

9.   What's next for you? What are you working on now?
Ans. =>I’m working on a book about crow shapeshifters and an immortal human who can talk to the Grim Reaper. It’s called Black Feathers Falling and so far, I’ve really enjoyed writing it.
